ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY

'A Glimpse Into the Cosmos'

Astrophotography is the art and science of capturing images of celestial objects such as satellites, comets, planets, stars, constellations, and nebulae, revealing a universe often hidden to the naked eye. It requires long exposure times to gather enough light from these distant subjects, allowing their beauty to emerge in detail. A sturdy tripod is essential to keep the camera perfectly still during these extended exposures, avoiding any motion blur. Post-processing also plays a crucial role, enhancing the faint signals and colors captured by the sensor, and bringing out structures and features that are invisible without digital refinement.

The photographs presented here include my first explorations into Milky Way photography, taken at Tongariro National Park, North Island, New Zealand in 2016, and at the Church of the Good Shepherd on the shores of Lake Tekapo, South Island, New Zealand in 2018. They also showcase the NEOWISE comet and the Milky Way, captured from the Nivolet Pass in Italy in 2020 and 2021, respectively.
