Mount Hananipa (717 m) 📍 is a prominent peak in the Osterøy region of Westland county, Norway, rising above the Sørfjorden and Veafjorden. Its rounded summit offers expansive views over fjords, islands, and the surrounding mountain ranges. The hike to Hananipa is a local favorite, especially in winter when snow blankets the heathland, creating a quiet, white expanse. The mountain’s open ridges make it an excellent spot for catching both sunrise and sunset on clear days.


'...According to local tales, Hananipa, literally “The Rooster Peak”, got its name because, from certain angles, the profile of the summit resembles the head of a rooster. An old farming story says that in the past, shepherd boys would shout across the valleys, and the echo from the mountain was said to sound like a rooster’s crow. Whether this is a trick of sound or imagination, the nickname stuck, and to this day hikers still listen for the “call of the rooster” on calm days...'
