Kilchurn Castle 📍, standing in dramatic ruins on a small peninsula at the northeastern end of Loch Awe, is one of Scotland’s most evocative historic sites. Built in the mid-15th century by Sir Colin Campbell, the first Lord of Glenorchy, it served as a stronghold of the powerful Campbell clan for centuries. Today, its roofless towers and walls rise starkly against a backdrop of misty mountains and shimmering waters, creating one of the most photographed and romantic scenes in the Highlands. At sunrise or sunset, when the castle and its reflection glow in golden light, the view is nothing short of iconic.
