Longyearbyen 📍 is the world’s northernmost settlement of its size, located on the island of Spitsbergen in Norway’s Svalbard archipelago. Surrounded by snow-covered mountains and Arctic fjords, it serves as the administrative center and main gateway to the polar wilderness. Once a coal mining town, it is now a hub for Arctic research, tourism, and expeditions, offering a rare mix of colorful wooden buildings, extreme weather, and 24-hour daylight in summer, or total polar night in winter.
