'Landscape & Local Story'

Manarola 📍, one of the five villages of the Cinque Terre in Liguria, is famed for its colorful houses cascading down the cliffs toward the Ligurian Sea. Perched dramatically above a small harbor carved into the rocks, the village offers postcard-perfect views at every turn, pastel façades glowing in the sunlight, terraced vineyards climbing the hillsides, and narrow carrugi (alleyways) winding through the old town. It is also known for its wines, especially the sweet Sciacchetrà, produced from grapes grown on the steep terraces that have been cultivated for centuries.

'...Legends and traditions enrich Manarola’s beauty. Local lore says the village was founded around a Roman settlement, its name deriving from magna rota, “large wheel”, likely a reference to an ancient mill. Today, its most magical moment comes in December, when the hillside above the village lights up with the world’s largest nativity scene, created from thousands of handmade figures and illuminated shapes. Whether visited in the glow of Christmas lights, during the lively summer months, or in the quiet calm of spring, Manarola embodies the spirit of the Cinque Terre: a timeless blend of sea, stone, and tradition...'
